ABOUT THE PROJECT

the STORY BEHIND

It was the beginning of May and we were on our way home from a GoPro Creator Summit in Cape Town. Our skies were already in the cellar for a while after a slightly frustrating and dry season in the Alps. But we were everything but ready to call it a season. That's exactly when we got a call from our friend and Norwegian snowboard legend Krister Kopala, telling us that there is a huge storm approaching Trømso.

We immediately changed tickets straight to Trømso and got some friends to bring our ski gear to the airport for the stopover / summer to winter transformation.

Arrived in Trømso it was deepest winter, snow all the way to the fjords and 24h of sunlight, but the sun itself never came out as it was snowing continuously. NOT BAD! Finally winter.

We started chasing short weather windows, starting tours at 23pm and dropping in at 3am in the morning. Most of the time we spent hiking up some narrow couloirs in heavy snowfall, hoping for a weather window to appear somewhere on the horizon.

Our routines were disturbed. Everything was based on the weather. It never got dark anyway.

After two weeks and many honest tries in the couloirs our energy levels were declining, but we wanted to ride those big lines and mountains so badly which we saw glimpsing out of the clouds from time to time.

Then we finally saw this weather window coming up in the forecast. It was supposed to clear up at 6pm and stay clear until around 9am the next day. We were 100% committed - using every single second -

2pm light snowfall and fog. We started our approach towards the goal, the north face of Store Jægervastinden. At 6pm after about 20km and 1400hm we reached a saddle, a few hundred meters below the summit ridge. -15°C, strong wind and complete white - out, exactly where we wanted to be. We dug a snow cave and the waiting game started. 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, but the weather window just didn't wanted to come up.

At 11pm we decided to push towards the summit, hoping that the weather would clear up every second, as we wanted to ski the north face, which only has "sun" between midnight and 3am. Half an hour later we were on the summit, still cloudy and windy but with a few meters of visibility. Just before midnight we saw a glimpse of light and a minute later the whole sky cleared up and the sun was hitting us from the horizon. The feeling was incredible and our surroundings were OUT OF THIS WORLD!

From sunset at midnight to sunrise at 1am we climbed the sharp summit ridge to the main summit and rappelled into the north face to check the snowpack for weak layers. It was stable!

Ready? 3 - 2 - 1 - Drop in!

22 HØURS and 3 different dream lines later we were done, the storm rolled in and we had the hardest of times to not fall asleep on the 2 hour drive back to our cabin on a snowy afternoon.

14th May 2022.

the idea

After we shared some clips of our Norway trip on social media, million of people got crazy about the footage we made during our mission. We thought it would be a bit of a shame to leave all this amazing footage on our hard drives, without sharing the story with a greater audience. So we got the idea, to make a film about our 22 hour long adventure in Norway.

We first went to F-Tech, a South Tyrolean film production company, to show them what we’ve got. After a quick look through our footage it was clear, this video material combined with the story behind is the perfect base for making a great movie. F-Tech quickly decided to jump on board and made the trailer for us.

Mission

It’s now on us to present the film project to our partners to get the required funding for the final production.

For now we have some crucial shots and pretty much the part of the footage which is the hardest to get. Epic light on a dreamline with perfect powder.

Our plan is now to go back to Norway between April and May for about 3 weeks to film everything around our arctic mission and get a complete package of the required footage in order to finalize the project. We’ll need a filmer for about 5 – 7 days to film the missing footage under the direction of F-Teck Productions, in order to step on to the post production.

Vision

We are optimistic that with the stunning footage we already have and the strong production company behind us, we will be able to produce a high quality 20-30min movie with a great story, which then can be shown at several film festivals and events, as well as used by our sponsors for their own publicity.
